The Effect Of Testing On Mechanical Properties Of...

Assignment 1 MATS4006 Polymer Science and Engineering II S2, 2014 Prajna Tanuwijaya Z3423370 School of Materials Science and Engineering The University of New South Wales 5th September 2014 Effects of Testing Parameters on Mechanical Properties of Polypropylene Abstract Polypropylene being often used as products with live hinges and outdoor usage, is crucial to learn the limit of how it performs under various circumstances such as extreme temperature or the frequency and speed on how it is being moved. Its breaking force are also affected by those parameters. Hence it is important to study how to maximize the usage of the materials. Experiments include tensile test, Charpy impact test and Shore hardness test. Introduction Polypropylene is a thermoplastic used in applications such as packaging, automobile parts, carpeting, and a lot more application where it involves shearing movements. There are three types of polypropylene: homo polymer, block copolymer and random copolymer. In this case, random copolymer polypropylene is used as it can be used for injection molding and application that needs high impact strength. Polypropylene is a widely used commodity plastic with high chemical resistance. Being used widely due to its properties such as good tensile strength, fatigue and heat resistance besides having very high chemical resistance and used in food industry, also have very low water absorption. In this experiment, we are studying the effect ofShow MoreRelatedThe Effect Of Kaolin On The Mechanical Properties Of Polyethylene Composite2026 Words   |  9 PagesEFFECT OF KAOLIN ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYPROPYLENE/ POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITE MATERIAL Samir Nassaf Mustafa ABSTRACT :- In this work, the mechanical and water absorption properties of polymer blend polypropylene (PP) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) at constant ratio (50/50) composites as a function of kaolin powder weight content in the grain size (100,120  µm) were investigated. Polymer composite was fabricated by mixing polymer blend ( PPLDPE) with (0, 1, 3 ,5, 10, 14) wt.% of kaolinRead MoreTensile Testing : Tensile Test For Composites Essay1989 Words   |  8 PagesMATERIALS CHRACTERIZATION: 1. Tensile Testing: Tensile test for composites was conducted according to ASTM D 638 - 99, with a Universal Testing Machine (Zwick Co.). Tensile test was carried out at crosshead speed of 50mm/min at room temperature. 2. Izod Impact Testing: In order to measure the work of fracture (WOF), the Izod impact test was carried out.Impact bars were obtained by cutting specimens in rectangular shapes. These rectangular specimens are of thickness 3 mm, width 12 mm and lengthRead MoreErosion Efficiency And Scanning Electron Microscopy ( Sem ) Of Textile Material Reinforced Polymer Composites1584 Words   |  7 PagesErosion Efficiency and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) of Textile Material Reinforced Polymer Composites Sachin Tejyan Department of Mechanical Engineering, Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi (H.P.) - India tejyan86@gmail.com Amit Singla Department of Mechanical Engineering, Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi (H.P.) - India Abstract-- The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the usefulness of the erosion efficiency by considering the large body of data in the literature pertainingRead MoreHigh Performance Aromatic Polyimides ( Pis )2271 Words   |  10 PagesPOLYIMIDE High-performance aromatic polyimides (PIs) possess various outstanding properties, such as high thermal, mechanical, and chemical resistance and a low dielectric constant. Therefore, increasing attention has been paid to the application of PIs to microelectronics, optoelectronics, and the aerospace industry [3]. It is possible to apply graphene on conducting electrodes and films, sensors, electromagnetic shielding materials and so on .In particular, polymer–graphene composite materialsRead MoreBraun Ag: the Kf 40 Coffee Machine13786 Words   |  56 Pages Design Management Institute Case Study Braun AG: The KF 40 Coffee Machine â€Å"If we’re going to do it, we’ve got to quit stalling,† exclaimed Albrecht Jestà ¤dt,1 head of development for a new coffeemaker at Braun AG. â€Å"I’ve said all I can about polypropylene, and I’m convinced we can go with it,† he added, taking another sip of his beer. The physical properties such as colour and mechanical properties such as strength and performance must have some changes. The chemical composition of the concrete also change considerably. The strength of concrete reduce with increasing of temperature and rate of strength loss is influenced by compressive strength of the concrete. Generally, concrete may provides the best resistance properties towards fire of any building materials. This good resistanceRead MoreThe Training Procedure For Pigeons2299 Words   |  10 Pageslearning theory suggests that associative mechanisms can influence behaviour through either the activation of stimuli by Pavlovian conditioning or through instrumental conditioning. Pavlovian conditioning reflects the acquisition of motivational properties of a conditioned stimuli (CS) through its association with appetitive or aversive reinforcement; the unconditioned stimulus (US) as they are presented together (Balleine and Dickinson, 2002). In the Pavlovian training procedure for pigeons, theRead MoreSip (Cogongrass as Main Component of Biodegradable Plastic)2748 Words   |  11 Pagesthatwere trapped on waterways and dams causes floods; plastics that were burned up causes air pollution and plastics that were collected on household are now in great concentration on landfills. Toys like silly putty are unique because of they have distinct properties that are different from the properties of other types of matter. There are two different kinds of properties, chemical properties and physical properties. Chemical properties are qualities that can be observed during a chemical reaction, like when vinegar reacts with baking soda. Physical properties are qualities that can be observed during physical change
